Sustainability & Community Impact
Indonesia is home to some of the world’s most vital and fragile ecosystems, including the heart of the Coral Triangle and the vast Borneo rainforest. As purveyors of travel to these pristine areas, we hold a profound responsibility to be stewards of the environment and respectful partners to the local communities who call them home. Our commitment to sustainability is not an afterthought; it is woven into the fabric of our operations and is a core principle of the Juara Holding Group.
Our Environmental Commitments
1. Carbon Neutral Operations
We acknowledge the environmental impact of aviation. To address this, we have committed to making our operations carbon neutral. We achieve this through a two-pronged approach:
- Measurement & Reduction: We meticulously track the fuel consumption of every flight. We work with operators who invest in modern, fuel-efficient aircraft and utilize advanced flight planning software to optimize routes and minimize emissions.
- Verified Offsetting: For all unavoidable emissions, we purchase high-quality carbon credits from the Rimba Raya Biodiversity Reserve in Central Kalimantan (Borneo). This leading REDD+ (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and forest Degradation) project protects carbon-dense tropical peat swamp forests, a critical habitat for endangered orangutans, and supports local community development.
2. Marine & Terrestrial Conservation Support
We believe in directly supporting the organizations working on the front lines of conservation in the areas our clients visit. A percentage of the revenue from every journey is donated to our conservation partners:
- Journeys to Komodo: Support the Komodo Survival Program, funding ranger patrols and scientific research to protect the Komodo dragon.
- Journeys to Raja Ampat: Support the Coral Triangle Center, funding marine protected area (MPA) management and local conservation training programs.
- Journeys to Borneo: Support local orangutan rehabilitation centers and forest protection initiatives.
3. Waste Reduction & Single-Use Plastic Ban
We enforce a strict zero single-use plastic policy on all our chartered flights and ground operations. This includes providing clients with reusable water bottles, using non-plastic catering containers, and working with partners who share this commitment.
Our Community Commitments
1. Local Employment & Empowerment
Our goal is to ensure that the economic benefits of tourism are felt directly by local communities. We have a formal policy to prioritize local hiring and development:
- 80% Local Employment: We are committed to maintaining a workforce where at least 80% of our on-the-ground staff—including guides, drivers, and local concierges—are from the regions in which we operate.
- Fair Wages & Training: We provide above-market wages, comprehensive hospitality and safety training, and clear paths for career advancement.
2. Supporting Local Economies & Artisans
We actively design our itineraries to include authentic, respectful engagement with local culture and commerce.
- Local Sourcing: We source in-flight catering and provisions from local markets and organic farms whenever possible, such as sourcing fresh produce in Labuan Bajo for yacht charters.
- Cultural Heritage: We facilitate private, respectful visits to local artisans, such as the ikat weavers of Sumba or the silversmiths of Celuk in Bali, ensuring that artisans are compensated fairly for their time and craft.
3. Community Development Projects
Through the Juara Holding Group’s foundation, we identify and support specific community needs in the remote areas we frequent. Current projects include funding school supplies for a village near the Wae Rebo cultural site in Flores and supporting clean water access projects in rural Sumba.
